Star Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah has regretted
missing out on the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Australia due to an injury.
Due to a back issue, Bumrah was forced to withdraw
from the four-week competition on Monday. He will now stay at home in India
while the rest of his squad travels to Australia for the premier competition.
The 28-year-old expressed his disappointment with the
timing of his injury on social media and offered his teammates support as they
strive for victory in Australia.
I'm disappointed that I won't be playing
in this year's T20 World Cup, but I'm grateful for the good wishes, concern, and
support from my loved ones.
I am gutted that I won’t be a part of the T20 World Cup this time, but thankful for the wishes, care and support I’ve received from my loved ones. As I recover, I’ll be cheering on the team through their campaign in Australia 🇮🇳 pic.twitter.com/XjHJrilW0d

"As I improve, I’ll support the squad during
their Australian campaign."
Bumrah was initially selected to lead India's effort
to capture a second T20 World Cup championship. His absence is anticipated to
hurt their prospects of adding to the trophy they won in 2007.
Although other seamers, Mohammed Shami and
Deepak Chahar, are among the players already on standby for the competition,
the BCCI has not yet named a substitute for the right arm.
The former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson spoke
about Bumrah's absence on the most recent episode of The ICC Review, and he
thinks India should choose another alternative.
Watson stated on The ICC Review's presenter Sanjana
Ganesan, "The person I would bring in if Jasprit's not available is
Mohammad Siraj because of the firepower he provides."
India won't necessarily have that one thing without
Bumrah, which is essential for the pace and bounce of Australian wickets on the
larger fields. Siraj is excellent with the fresh ball. He is quick, swings the
ball away, and has decent defensive abilities. "And he's improved over the
last few years, with what we've seen in the IPL. "So, for me, he's
probably going to be the one who will have the biggest effect."
On October 23, India will face their bitter foe Pakistan at the Melbourne
Cricket Ground to kick off their T20 World Cup campaign.
